Dev Log #1 Pre-Production
A downloadable game
Most of preproduction has been our team gaining a foothold on what our game will look like. This means putting our ideas into tangible examples, pitches and maps that give fellow team members and better grasp on what the final product will be. A good chunk of semester one was team members perception of the game not quite being on the same page or having a clear enough picture to offer proper feedback and critique. Now we have a proper and usable schedule put in place and concepts being put to paper. The schedule consists of a list of items our group needs to complete in order to make sure we're on track. Our scope as of right now is vague, our team has created room for cuts to be made should we require them, but how big we can go with our game and its levels remains to be seen.
For my part, this included creating a pitch for what the narrative direction of our game will be. This included mockups and visuals, that gave team members something solid to critique, offer feedback and use to inform their own sections of work. As a narrative designer, it's entirely possible that my role will become minimal in the wake of crunch. For this reason, I'll be aiding in art and UI design, as our artists will have a large load of work to deal with.
Thus far, our team is relatively strong in communication. Informing each other of what when they'll have work done, who's able to do what, and providing appropriate feedback. Due to our communication and the environment we've cultivated, our group dynamic is very friendly and supportive, allowing for the easy sharing of ideas. Should this prompt communication continue, our team should be able to overcome any future problems that may come up in the project.

I think it's great that your communication is so strong, supported by the safe environment that allows everyone to feel comfortable to speak up. It's also good that you guys hammered out the uncertainties before moving forward to make sure everyone starts on the same page. I would love to see the mockups and visuals that you made for your team, and I hope that your scope doesn't go out of hand!
