A downloadable game

When developing my  game pitch, I found difficulty balancing my games concept between fun/campy and serious commentary on the state of wealth inequality. The premise depends on the main character's relationship and reputation with those around her, but more thought needed to be put into what exactly she'd learn. Whether it was appropriate to have her learn by the end the source of her wealth, and what exactly the player was being lead to believe. This made communicating the end goal of the game difficult, as most of the draw was controlling a delusional wealthy person.

Inspiration for the game's conversation mechanics was taken from Ace Attorney Phoenix Wright's Magatama and Investigation mechanics. The inspiration for keeping suspicion low, was taken from Octodad: Dadliest Catch's suspicion mechanic, where an Octopus must convince others that they are indeed a human father.  Omori's Sweetheart and other "Ojou-sama" type personalities inspired the games premise and lead character.

Our group was made of up people with a variety of different skillsets, which allowed us to have decent coverage for a proper project. By popular vote, our team chose a point-and-click horror game. It's premise being that a detective must dive into the memories of a coma patient to solve a town's disappearance. Our team gravitated towards its potential, and during our first meeting we've already started discussing development and its direction.

I know that balancing a theme with a message can be a challenge, especially when they can first seem like total opposites but I think even using examples of other games like Ace Attorney is a great start at not just explaining gameplay but also having a direct connection to a reference.

I felt you struck a beautiful balance during your pitch between fun and serious feeling commentary through gameplay and narrative elements. I think the Ace Attorney inspiration made a lot of sense and would’ve made for a functional cohesion of your intended gameplay loop and narrative structure.

Your team had a diverse set of expertise, which formed a solid basis for the project. The game concept has a lot of potential, and I'm forward to see how you guys execute the "dive into the memories" component.
